Why teko’s logo is a tea leaf

How a simple symbol came to represent a more human, accessible vision for investing in Vietnam
When people ask about a company’s name or logo, they are usually asking a deeper question: What do you believe in?
That is why I loved the question Gaetan Crielaard recently asked my co-founder, Phong Dao, and me: “What does teko mean? And does the logo represent anything?”
The answer is yes. Our logo is a tea leaf.
The Tea Leaf: A Vision of Everyday Investing
At first glance, that might seem like a quiet, understated choice for a fintech company. It is not a bull, a graph, or one of the more aggressive symbols often associated with finance. But for us, the tea leaf captures exactly what we want teko to stand for.
In Vietnam, one of the most familiar drinks is trà đá. It is simple, everyday, and accessible. It belongs to ordinary life.
You don't need a special occasion for trà đá. You don't need status for it. It’s just there, woven naturally into daily routines, from street corners to offices to family meals.
That is exactly how we think investing should feel.
Not exclusive. Not intimidating. Not reserved for a small group of insiders. It should feel normal. Familiar. Healthy. Something that becomes part of everyday life.
Breaking Down the Barriers
Too often, investing is presented as something complicated or distant. The language feels technical. The industry feels closed off. For many people, it can seem like a world built for experts, the wealthy, or those who already know the rules.
We see it differently.
We believe investing should be as approachable as something you already know. Something that fits into life instead of sitting outside it. A habit that builds confidence, not stress.
That is what the tea leaf represents. It reflects a vision of investing grounded in everyday reality, where financial growth is not about one dramatic move, but about building a healthier relationship with money over time.
Growth Comes From Consistency
The leaf carries another meaning too: growth requires consistency.
When you water a plant consistently, it grows. Not all at once. Not overnight. Not because of one big moment. It grows because of small, repeated acts of care.
That is how we think about investing.
Not as one dramatic leap, but as something small and repeated over time. You save a little.
You learn a little.
You invest a little.
And then, slowly, something begins to compound. Not just your money, but also your confidence, your understanding, and your sense of ownership over your future.
This matters because many people are discouraged from investing before they even begin. They assume they need perfect timing, large sums of money, or expert knowledge.
But real growth starts with participation, not perfection.
A first step matters. A small habit matters. Repetition matters. That is what the leaf reminds us of.
The Leaf Is Also a “T”
There is one more layer to the symbol: the leaf is also a T.
It ties the logo directly to our name while reinforcing what it stands for. It is a visual shorthand for what we are trying to build: something simple, thoughtful, and rooted in long-term growth.
The best symbols often do more than one thing at once.
A tea leaf.
A sign of growth.
A letter.
A philosophy.
The Story Behind the Name Teko
The name itself has its own layered story.
Phong originally came up with it from two ideas: “Te” for tech and “Ko” for custody. In that sense, teko began as a practical name for what we are building: a technology platform for holding and protecting assets.
That meaning still matters. Trust, security, and infrastructure are foundational in any financial product. If people are going to build their future with you, they need to know their assets are being held and protected well.
But later, I discovered something unexpected. In Finnish, teko means “an act,” and hyvä teko means “a good act.”
I smiled when I saw that. It felt strangely aligned with what we believe investing really is: doing something good for your future self.
Not necessarily something huge. Not something dramatic enough to announce. Just a small act. A good act. One that may seem minor in the moment, but becomes meaningful through repetition.
Maybe the name made sense before we even fully knew why.
A Small Act That Becomes Something Bigger
That idea stays with me.
A tea leaf. A small act. A first step. A long-term habit.
These are not flashy ideas. They are not built for hype. But they are durable.
The future is often by quiet choices made again and again. Investing belongs in that category. It is not just a financial action. It is a way of saying: my future matters enough to prepare for.
That is also the kind of company we want to build.
Not just a platform, but a habit-forming companion for people who want to do something good for their future selves.
Building Trust, One Person at a Time
More than 565 people have already joined the waitlist, and I feel incredibly grateful for the trust they are placing in us and in this vision.
Early trust is never something to take lightly. It is not just interest. It is belief. It is people saying, in their own way, that they want this future to exist too.
For a company at our stage, that means a lot.
It reinforces the idea that accessible investing isn’t a niche ambition. It’s a real need. People want a starting point that feels human.
The Promise Behind the Brand
In the end, brands are not just colors, logos, and names. They are promises. Our promise is simple: investing should not feel out of reach.
- It should feel like trà đá: Simple. Everyday. Accessible.
- It should feel like watering a plant: Small acts, repeated over time.
- It should feel like a good act for your future self.
That is the meaning behind the teko logo. And that is the kind of company we want to build.
