Iran seizes ships in Strait of Hormuz, challenging US naval presence

Iran has seized two container ships near the Strait of Hormuz, but the market for countries sending warships through the Strait by April 30 sits at just 1.9% YES.

The UK warship market holds at 1.9% despite the seizures, and other countries’ markets are flatlined at the same odds. Traders are not pricing in any immediate allied military response.

The US escort market has dropped to 5.5% YES, down from 7% yesterday. That 2-point drop is the largest move today. The order book is thin: just $732 would move the price 5 points, which means the current level reflects a lack of liquidity more than broad conviction in either direction.

The seizures are a direct challenge to US naval presence, but traders are pricing the probability of a US escort through Hormuz at 5.5%, implying an 18x payout on YES shares if it resolves positively. That bet requires believing the US will respond with an escort operation within six days.

Watch for statements from the UK Ministry of Defence or the Pentagon. Any announcement of naval deployments or changes in US operational posture could move these markets quickly.
