I’ve spent enough time inside financial markets data infrastructure to know that the gap between “this works in a notebook” and “this is production-ready” is where most AI projects quietly die.

MCP is no different.

An AI agent asks a question.
The MCP server exposes a tool.
The tool fetches market data.
The agent returns an answer.

It feels elegant, modern, and powerful.

But in financial services, that is only the beginning.

The real challenge is not building an MCP server that works.
The real challenge is building one that can operate in production with the controls, trust, and commercial design that financial data requires.

That is where productization starts.

The gap between prototype and production

A prototype MCP server usually proves one thing:

An LLM can successfully call a tool and get back useful market data.

That is valuable, but it is not enough for a real business.

In production, the questions change immediately:

These are not side questions.
In financial data, these are the product.

Why financial data is different

Financial data is not just another API category.
