The XRP Ledger (XRPL) community is facing a critical deadline. In less than 36 hours, any node operator or validator running a software version older than XRPL 3.1.3 will be entirely cut off from the network.

Prominent XRPL dUNL validator and community figure Vet (@Vet_X0) has urged infrastructure providers, decentralized exchanges (DEXs), and NFT marketplaces to update their systems immediately.

An amendment block, explained

The XRPL uses an "amendment" system to introduce new features, bug fixes, or structural changes. In order to get ratified, a certain amendment has to maintain an 80% approval rate for two consecutive weeks.

If a node operator has not updated their software to a version that understands these new rules (in this case, version 3.1.3), that node can no longer process transactions or sync with the blockchain. It becomes "amendment blocked," which means that the node essentially goes dark.

Taking action

This warning is only directed at node operators and validators, exchanges, ecosystem projects, and so on.

Vet noted that only 40% of the network had updated to the new software.

The foundation has been working directly with major centralized exchanges to verify their readiness, and there is an ongoing effort to make sure that smaller projects do not get caught off guard.

The fix only "takes literally 2 minutes," so it is largely trivial.

Everyday investors holding XRP are not affected, so no action is required.

The amendment block only penalizes the specific servers that fail to stay current with the network's consensus rules, not the end users of the network. "Nothing changes for them, its for those actively operating services and projects on it. Their own access to the network will be interrupted until they update," Vet explained.
