Most online courses fail quietly.

Not because the content is bad.
Not because the platform is broken.

But because there’s no interaction.

I didn’t always see it that way.

I was working on an Odoo eLearning setup recently. On the surface, everything looked right. The courses were structured, the layout was clean, and the user journey made sense. A student could log in, pick a course, go through lessons, and finish.

It worked.

But it didn’t feel complete.

There was no place for questions. No space for confusion. No room for conversation.

And that’s where things usually fall apart.

Learning isn’t just about consuming content. It’s about asking questions, getting feedback, and sometimes even seeing how others think. Without that, a course becomes… quiet. Too quiet.

So I added something simple.

A forum.

At first, it felt like a small addition. Just a place where students could post questions and get answers. But once it was in place, everything changed.

Now, a student could go through a lesson, get stuck, and immediately ask a question. Another user could respond. The instructor could step in. Conversations started forming around the content.

The platform was no longer just delivering information.

It was creating an experience.

That’s when it clicked for me.

The difference between a basic course and a real learning system isn’t just the content. It’s the environment around it.

Courses teach.
But systems engage.

And engagement is what keeps people coming back.

If you’re building an online course and something feels off, it might not be your content.

It might be what’s missing around it.

Sometimes, the smallest addition makes the biggest difference.
