The People Have Spoken for $MCM
Mochimo is Moving to Proof-of-Stake
Ronny Fahrudin3 min read·Just now--
The wait is over, and the results are in. In one of the most significant moments in our network’s history, the Mochimo community has cast its gaze toward the future. After a tense voting period and a dramatic “sudden death” finish, we have a clear winner.
Mochimo will be officially transitioning from Proof-of-Work (PoW) to Proof-of-Stake (PoS).
A) The Final Numbers
The community turnout was historic, representing deep consensus across the ecosystem. While some attempts were made to inflate vote counts with “dust” addresses (less than 1 MCM), the final tally focused on committed stakeholders:
- Proof-of-Stake (PoS): 51 addresses | 8,887,476 MCM (72.1%)
- Proof-of-Work (PoW): 48 addresses | 3,439,175 MCM (27.9%)
- Total MCM Committed: 12,326,661 (~39% of circulating supply)
B) The “Golden Block” Finish
True to the decentralised nature of Mochimo, the end of the voting window was governed by the chain itself. The “Golden Block” that finalised our future was:
- Block Height: 991,072
- Timestamp: 7th May 2026 @ 07:52:00 UTC
- Hash Result: Started with 0x00, officially closing the window.

C) The Great Debate: Why the Shift?
C.1. The Case for Proof-of-Stake (PoS)
The majority pushed for sustainability and accessibility. PoS eliminates the massive electricity overhead and the “hardware arms race” of expensive GPUs. This allows anyone with MCM to participate in securing the network, potentially stabilising the ecosystem by reducing the constant “sell pressure” miners face to pay utility bills.
C.2. The Case for Proof-of-Work (PoW)
The supporters of PoW stood by the physical security and “fair work” model. They argued that “burning” electricity creates a physical floor for the coin’s value and maintains a battle-tested distribution method where anyone with a computer can contribute effort to earn rewards.
D) What Happens to PoW? (The “Fork” Plan)
Many miners have asked: Is this the end for Mochimo mining?
According to the founder Stackoverflo (Matt Zweil), the answer is: Not necessarily.
- Immediate Future: PoW mining on the main Mochimo chain will continue for at least 2 months while the transition is engineered. It is a complex shift that cannot happen instantly.
- A New Beginning: Because there is a passionate group of miners who love the PoW model, the Core Team is exploring the creation of a separate PoW network.
- The New Identity: Mochimo itself will become the PoS network. However, a new PoW-only project would “fork” away, carrying its own identity.
- Licensing: As the majority shareholder in Adequate Systems (which owns the Mochimo Cryptocurrency Engine), Stackoverflo (Matt Zweil) has indicated he is open to authorising a license for a separate entity to operate this new PoW network, provided there is enough sustained interest and sponsorship to cover the operational costs.
E) A Note of Gratitude
Whether you voted for PoS or stood by the legacy of PoW, your participation is what makes Mochimo a true DAO. To have nearly 40% of the supply represented in a governance vote is a testament to the passion of this community.
The future is green, the future is scalable, and the future is PoS.
Stay tuned for technical updates as we begin the journey toward the PoS era while respecting the mining roots that brought us here.
