Ideally, technology would simplify our daily lives. Smart phones give us a palm-size window to the world, and we can accomplish practically anything at the push of a button. Smart houses are self-maintaining and virtual meetings mean commuting time is a thing of the past for many.
In light of this, we ought to have more spare time. Time filled with napping, relaxing, or simply not doing anything — right?
If the notion that you’ve got more time than ever is making you choke on your coffee, you’re not alone. There’s increasing evidence that while digital technology may free up some time for us, we use that time to accomplish more and more activities. It appears, the calm moments of individuals watching, wondering and fantasising are suddenly filled with tech-based chores.
