Stop Asking ChatGPT for Stock Tips — Use These 7 Prompts Instead
How structured prompts turn generic AI responses into useful market research and analysis.

Asking ChatGPT for stock market tips is truly like asking a calculator to make you rich. The AI tool is powerful no doubt…. but only if you ask the right questions.
Let’s talk about that today!
Most people that I know open ChatGPT, only type “give me the best stock trading tips,” and wonder why the response is so generic and most of the times not useful. The problem is not ChatGPT itself…. it is the prompt.
Why Generic Prompts Fail
Generic prompts do not fetch you what you are trying to obtain. AI always responds to specificity.
When you ask for such types of “tips,” you only get surface-level advice that applies to everyone and helps no one, eventually. When you ask for structured analysis (which is what you actually want), you get something you can practically use.
I am a long-term investor and a part-time trader and in my limited experience, I have already seen what works and what does not. Here are 7 prompts that work better in almost all use cases.

✦ 1. Personal Market Analyst
✦ 2. Technical Chart Breakdown
✦ 3. Trading Method Simulator
✦ 4. Personal Risk Manager (very important)
✦ 5. AI Stock Screener
✦ 6. News Impact Analyzer
✦ 7. Daily Market Brain
➥ The Real Advantage
NOTE 1: The prompts need to have the stock symbols as listed in the stock exchange that you are trading in. I always give ChatGPT a context where I specify which exchange I am focusing on.
NOTE 2: I am not a financial advisor and I am not advising you to buy or sell stocks. I am only speaking about prompts which can help you look at your chosen stocks better.
Also, I use ChatGPT Go that does not mean that you need to use the same tool. Check out Claude and Google’s Gemini and decide for yourself which works best with you and your stock investing journey.
These prompts can change the way you trade, but you need to be rational and do your own research before investing.
Let’s go!
1. Personal Market Analyst
Check out this prompt and put the stock name or symbol appropriately.
Act as a professional stock market analyst and analyze the following stock based on fundamentals, financial ratios, business model, management strength, competitive edge, and long-term potential. Present your findings clearly. Stock: [name].
How does this help? This gives you a breakdown, not a buy/sell signal.
2. Technical Chart Breakdown
Interpret this stock’s technical chart using key indicators like moving averages, RSI, MACD, trendlines, support and resistance, and volume. Explain the likely scenarios, not predictions. Chart details or data: [paste].
How does this help? Analysis, not fortune telling. If you do not analyse well your stock selection won’t be fruitful.
3. Trading Method Simulator
Act as a trading mentor and help me test different trading methods like swing, intraday, or position trading. Simulate how each method might behave in various market conditions. Method type: [insert]. Risk level: [insert].
How does this help? This is focused more on educating you on different trading methods and eventually you can ask ChatGPT and learn more about each of them.
4. Personal Risk Manager
Analyze my risk appetite and create a safe, diversified stock exposure plan. Do not recommend specific stocks. Instead, define percentage splits, time horizons, and risk controls. My profile: [age, risk, goals].
How does this help? Most of us do not know how much risk we can take. We base our investment on current bank balance. This prompt can help to profile your risk appetite.
5. AI Stock Screener
Create a screening checklist for identifying high-quality stocks based on valuation, growth prospects, financial health, competitive advantage, and risk factors. Then use the checklist on this stock: [name].
How does this help? This is something everyone should use to prepare a list of top stocks, and then check one by one to choose the best!
6. News Impact Analyzer
Analyze how this news event may influence the stock or sector. Provide a balanced view of potential short-term and long-term effects without giving buy or sell advice. News: [paste link or text]. Stock or Sector: [name].
How does this help? Mostly, stocks change direction based on market sentiments triggered by news of current events. A trader needs to be aware of the impact they cause because they change very frequently.
7. Daily Market Brain
Create a daily 10-minute market analysis routine that includes checking indexes, scanning news, reviewing watchlists, analyzing charts, and evaluating risk. Make it simple enough to follow consistently.
How does this help? Again, a best practice that almost every day trader that I know follows religiously.
✦ The Real Advantage
From now on, stop asking ChatGPT for mere ‘stock tips’ that result in almost nothing…. every single time!
Instead, use these 7 prompts listed above.
I hope you can now see how structured prompts, such as these, can turn generic AI responses into useful market research and analysis, which can impact a day trader’s or short-term trader’s life immediately.
These prompts really turn ChatGPT into a dedicated and trustworthy research assistant, not a quick decision-maker…. not a buy/sell ticker.
- You still do your own research.
- You still make your own choices.
But the quality of input improves significantly, as you can see. They have helped me, and they have helped people in my inner circle. There is no reason that these 7 prompts will not help you.
All the best!
