Traditional blockchains were supposed to kick off a new era after the 2020 DeFi summer! We wanted a fully decentralized, trustless internet where users actually own their data and value flows without friction.

That vision still sounds great, but in practice things haven’t quite lived up to it. The biggest issue is that most blockchains weren’t designed for the kind of complexity we’re now trying to push onto them.

Early architectures work fine for simple transactions, but once you start layering in advanced DeFi strategies, real-time data feeds, or anything even remotely AI-driven, cracks start to show.

Introducing Nomisma Network as an early-stage blockchain project building an AI-focused DeFi infrastructure layer. It aims to support decentralized applications by using a “subchain” model.

Throughput becomes a bottleneck, latency creeps in, and suddenly “decentralized” apps rely on off-chain computation or patched-in solutions just to function.

And that’s where the quiet compromise happens. A lot of projects end up leaning on Web2-style infrastructure with centralized APIs to keep things running smoothly.

It works but it dilutes the whole point. You get something that looks decentralized on the surface, but underneath it’s stitched together…
