Magnetar Capital replaces human analysts with AI bots for new fund
The $18 billion hedge fund will deploy hundreds of AI agents to research stocks, keeping humans only for final trading decisions.

The AI agents will handle the full spectrum of equity research: scouring data, analyzing individual stocks, generating buy and sell recommendations, and forecasting market trends. Human portfolio managers will still make the final call on trades, but the analytical heavy lifting will be done entirely by machines.

The bots are designed to match or exceed the analytical capabilities of large human analyst teams, processing volumes of data that would take a human weeks in a matter of hours.
Magnetar isn’t stumbling into AI on a whim. The firm launched a $235 million AI Ventures Fund back in August 2024, specifically targeting early- to growth-stage companies in the generative AI space. That fund gave Magnetar a front-row seat to the capabilities emerging from the latest generation of AI models. Now the firm is turning those capabilities inward, applying them to its own core business of picking stocks.
The new fund’s size, official launch date, and performance targets haven’t been disclosed.
