Abstract
Hello, my name is Joe, and I am introducing Seeds and Bones, my custom-built, lightweight JavaScript engine that simulates life at the cellular level. The Advancement of AI technology has uncovered a goldmine of human knowledge. This allows for advanced, intricate design philosophy that was not available before the Rise of AI. For instance, to simulate interactions off-screen, a macro-simulation algorithm mathematically fast-forwards plant and AI behavior. If a player leaves their farm for 24 hours, the game uses statistical probability to simulate exactly where their animals walked, what they ate, and where they fertilized the soil in a fraction of a millisecond upon return.
Problem:
The modern gaming landscape is fractured. Traditional Web2 games offer deep, immersive mechanics but commonly feature Predatory Monetization. Games such as League of Legends use exploitative variable ratio reinforcement schedules (the same psychological mechanism used in slot machines).
- Dailies/Clickies -> Retention Engineering via FOMO: Described as Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) loops. Games like World of Warcraft utilize appointment gaming — forcing a player to log in at specific times to avoid losing progress, which turns a hobby into a “digital chore.”
- Loot Boxes -> Randomized Microtransactions: Games like Counter Strike: Global Offensive often use tactics commonly categorized as “Gacha” mechanics or “Blind Box” purchases, which also uses exploitative variable ratio reinforcement schedules
Strategies like Pareto-Based Monetization: ( also known as Whale-Hunting ) are often described as monetization skew. It is a strategy that ignores the average player experience to cater exclusively to “High-Value Spenders” (Whales), leading to ecosystem degradation.
Other strategies include Cosmetic Inflation / Artificial Scarcity: This is the practice of overpricing digital assets that have zero marginal cost to produce, often termed conspicuous consumption mechanics.
Marketing to Minors -> Vulnerable Demographic Targeting: Companies are bypassing the underdeveloped impulse control of younger audiences to secure immediate parental spending.
Sexual Tropes: using Sensual Marketing hyper-sexualized imagery that doesn’t reflect gameplay is often described as misleading creative or seductive baiting.
Solution:
The Web3 framework allows for the protections against corporate mediation. By providing a financial landscape in the form of a Metaverse, players can create fund structures and Decentralized Autonomous Organizations ( DAO ) that provide financial security and Economic Freedom.
The framework itself can support the structural integrity of highly polished, AAA Web2 games, and can advance itself using non-predatory behavior in order to sustain the game’s integrity in the long-term.
By relying on a Free to Play model, a function of the relationship between the whales, and the F2P base becomes one where the whales “pay” for all of the content that the F2P base will enjoy. Using a Web3 based fund structure, the money that the whales pay, can be directly injected into a fund, which pays the F2P base, with UNI. This means that the F2P base can earn income, without ever having put any money into the game in the first place.
Built on Unichain, there are no fees for playing the game and earning into your in-game wallet. You only send the withdrawal transaction when you are ready to cash out. The cost is 1/20th of a cent ( $0.0005 ).
The Living World: Procedural Generation
At the core of Seeds & Bones is a sprawling, infinite world that feels organic, the game leverages five distinct procedural generation techniques working in harmony:
- Cellular Automata: Used to clump land and water, in order to sculpt natural continents and oceans, and to simulate the microscopic spread of bacteria, rot, and soil fertility in real-time.
- Chain Function Collapse: A constraint-solving algorithm used to organically generate Shorelines, by having a “Genesis” point, all other shorelines can create a chain to that point, and this allows the game to have a seamless shoreline, that does not fracture, due to always having a reference point to connect all the shorelines to.
- Dijkstra Maps (BFS): Real-time pathfinding that allows AI and animals to intelligently navigate around fences and buildings to find food or shelter.
- The Drunkard’s Walk: The chickens use drunkard’s walk in order to create a map of where the chicken can be, after a period of freeze. If it has been 4 hours since the hero last showed up, the simulation will run X number of iterations of drunkard’s walk, in order to pick where the chicken was eating the food.
- Box Automata: Similar to a dungeon creator, the Villages, Towns, and Castles all use Box Automata in order to stamp the buildings into the world. Every settlement created in the game is unique.
The Life Pyramid (Ecosystem Simulation)
The basis of life starts at the bacterial level. All living things are directly involved with bacteria, and yeast affects the human body through health, digestion, and the ability to fight diseases. It is one of the most important things that a human being can use to advance the body further.
Unlike static survival games, nature in Seeds & Bones operates on a closed-loop Life Pyramid: Bacteria ➔ Compost ➔ Plants ➔ Livestock
Nothing is wasted. If a player leaves a caught fish on the ground, it rots. The rotting fish spawns bacteria on nearby tiles, and leaches raw fertility into the soil. Highly fertile soil allows players to plant and harvest 11 different crops (including Turnips, Tomatoes, Strawberries, Watermelons, and Wheat). These crops can be eaten by players for energy, or fed to livestock.
Use rot to your advantage. Looters and raiders can uproot grass from nearby villages, composting it to provide the fertility for a powerful garden. Use the bacteria from compost to increase the virulence of your plants and animals, resulting in greater growth at the cost of temporary health penalties. Use large swathes of vegetative land to promote good bacteria and health, or leave a dead chicken rotting near your neighbor to affect their health negatively and use it as a weapon.
Plants and animals carry out their entire lifecycle using catch up logic, meaning that plants can go through multiple generations, while remaining 100 cells away from the player, when the player returns after a long journey, he will be greeted by the great-grandchildren of the corn plant he saw when he left.
Players can fence in ranches to raise Chickens, which feature active AI. Chickens will hunt for food, graze on crops, drop fertilizer (restarting the cycle), and seek out nesting boxes to lay eggs.
Animals work the same way as plants, by carving out a drunkard’s walk area, the catch up logic can determine how much food the chicken ate in the area, while the player was away, and if the chicken ran out of food or not.
Gameplay & Progression
Players are dropped into the world with nothing and must carve out their existence. Seeds & Bones offers a highly horizontal progression system, allowing players to advance their characters through multiple disciplines:
- Farming: Cultivate the land, manage soil fertility, and breed 11 distinct crops.
- Ranching: Build fences, protect livestock, and harvest eggs.
- Fishing: A casual, relaxing, and stable way to survive. The fishing system features a dynamic scarcity engine — if the server overfishes, bite times increase until the ecosystem heals.
- Mining & Cooking: Extract ores to smelt into gold, and combine raw ingredients at kitchens to create high-energy meals.
- Looting: Explore procedurally generated castles, barracks, and root cellars to find keys, weapons, and rare seeds.
A Deconstructed MOBA & MMO Hybrid
While the world is relaxing, survival is not guaranteed. Seeds & Bones features a highly competitive, skill-shot-based combat system inspired by traditional MOBAs.
Players choose distinct classes (such as the Paladin) and equip 4 core abilities from a wide pool of unlocked skills. Combat introduces entirely new MOBA mechanical concepts to the genre:
- Flux: A dynamic shielding mechanic. Dealing specific types of physical, spell, or omni damage grants temporary shields, rewarding aggressive frontline play.
- Resonance: A combo-driven debuff system. Landing certain spells applies Resonance to an enemy. Subsequent spells from the caster (or allies) consume the Resonance to trigger devastating secondary effects, like cooldown refunds or percentage-health execution damage.
- Divine Bubble: A hard-counter defensive mechanic that completely negates a single instance of incoming damage or crowd control, requiring opponents to strategically “pop” the bubble before unleashing ultimate abilities.
- Logarithm curve for Armor / MR: with 10 Armor giving 50% reduction, 100 Armor gives 75% reduction, and 1000 Armor gives 87.5% reduction. This allows Armor / Magic penetration to be more meaningful; at 10 armor, a weapon with 10 armor penetration would deal double damage!
Players can use these mechanics to battle each other for territory, or team up to heal and buff one another while exploring the wilderness.
A Frictionless Player Economy
Seeds & Bones uses a hybrid “Web2.5” architecture, in the form of a Voucher System. We separate the fast, fun gameplay from the secure, financial blockchain. Here is exactly how the pipeline works, from farming a crop to earning real tokens on the Unichain Network:
Step 1: Play Freely
When you run around the world, grow crops, trade at the General Store, and fight other players, you are playing on our high-speed game server. Everything is instantaneous and completely free. There are no wallets popping up to interrupt your gameplay.
Step 2: Earn In-Game Value
As you explore and survive, you gather valuable items like fish, rare seeds, and crops. When you want to convert your hard work into value, you visit a Holy Temple in the game and “Sacrifice” your items at the Altar. In exchange, the game credits your character with In-Game UNI points. Think of these like tickets you win at an arcade.
Step 3: The “Digital Check” (The Voucher)
When you are ready to cash out your points for real cryptocurrency, you open your in-game Bank Menu and request a withdrawal, which costs 1/20th of a cent.
Instead of forcing you to navigate complex smart contracts, the game server instantly generates a Cryptographic Voucher.
- Think of this Voucher as a certified, unforgeable digital check signed directly by the game’s developers.
- It mathematically proves: “This specific player has earned 1,000 UNI points, and we authorize them to cash it out.”
Step 4: Cashing Out
Your digital wallet (like MetaMask) will pop up, asking you to submit this “check” to the Unichain network. Because the check has our unforgeable signature on it, the blockchain accepts it and instantly deposits the real ERC-20 UNI tokens into your wallet.
Why is this a big deal?
Because you only ever interact with the blockchain once — at the very end of your play session when you are claiming your real-world value. You get the buttery-smooth, fast-paced experience of a traditional video game, combined with the true digital ownership of Web3.
Open Source & The Developer’s Vision
Seeds & Bones is built by a developer with lots of game development experience.
The actual project was started around 2022, but the bulk of the game has been developed over the past 15 weeks, as this is when I discovered the power of AI.
Because I believe the future of Web3 gaming belongs to the community, the entire engine, client, and server architecture is Completely Open Source. We invite modders, hackers, blockchain enthusiasts, and pixel artists to audit the code, build new classes, and contribute / distribute to and from the ecosystem.
