I Turned a Giveaway Bitaxe Gamma 602 Into the Most Efficient One I’ve Ever Owned. From unboxing to overclock — this Noderunner Edition is a serious little beast.
--
A weeks ago I won a custom Bitaxe Gamma 602 from Decentralized Mine in one of his giveaways. I knew it was going to be nice, but I didn’t expect it to become the most efficient Gamma in my entire mining rack. Here’s the full story — teardown, upgrades, and real-world numbers.
First Impressions: Already Impressive Out of the BoxRight after setting it up on Mining Dutch, I couldn’t believe the numbers I was seeing:
- Hashrate: 1.1 TH/s
- Power draw: 14.4 watts
- Efficiency: bouncing between 12.7–13.3 J/TH
That was already better than every other stock Gamma 602 I own. Clean purple PCB, EXT Tech El Mirage cooler, gobrrr.me stand with perfect cable management, and even a spare fan header. The build quality was immediately obvious — this wasn’t a random assembly. Time to Tear It Down and Make It Better I moved it to the bench and started upgrading it with some of my favorite parts in the Bitaxe community.
Upgrades Installed:
- I AM GPIO / Solo Mining Co. V-Rex voltage regulator heatsink
- Additional 40mm fan from Avoid Bit (mounted as exhaust on the gobrrr.me stand)
- Kept the excellent ixTech El Mirage ASIC cooler
I used high-quality Thermal Grizzly Duronaut paste and was careful with the spring-loaded pins (which I’ve grown to really like). The V-Rex cooler snaps on using the existing pins, and the extra fan tucks in perfectly thanks to the thoughtful design of the gobrrr.me stand. Cable management was clean and simple. The Results Blew Me Away after the upgrades, I let it settle in on a hot Idaho day (forest fire smoke and all).
Stock clocks:
- 1.1 TH/s @ 13.2 watts
- Efficiency: 12.41 J/TH ← My most efficient miner right now
- Temps: ASIC 57°C, V-Reg 42–43°C
Mild overclock (600/1200):
- 1.29 TH/s
- 18.2 watts
- Efficiency: 13.7 J/TH
For comparison, my other Gamma 602s (from Solo Satoshi) pull 22–25 watts at similar hash rates. This one is in a completely different league.
Why This Build Stands Out:
This Node Runner Edition is a perfect example of what happens when talented people in the Bitaxe space collaborate:
- Decentralized Mine’s custom build & purple board
- gobrrr’s excellent stand with extra fan slot.
- IxTech’s top-tier cooling
- I AM GPIO’s V-Rex VREG cooler
- AvoidBit’s reliable fans and headers
The attention to detail shows. No wasted space, smart cable routing, easy access to the screen, and rock-solid thermal performance.
Final Thoughts:
This little purple Gamma is now permanently living in my mining room. It’s efficient, cool, quiet, and just looks sick. Winning it in a giveaway made it even sweeter. If you’re into solo mining, home mining, or just love tinkering with Bitaxe hardware, this is the kind of build that makes the hobby so fun.
Big thanks to:
