Apple is preparing to give Siri the most significant overhaul in its history, transforming the voice assistant from a glorified timer-setter into something that actually resembles a modern AI chatbot. The redesign is expected to take center stage at WWDC 2026, scheduled for June 8 at Apple Park.

The goal is straightforward: make Siri conversational, context-aware, and genuinely useful.

What the new Siri actually looks like

Apple is building an entirely new Siri app, a standalone experience that goes well beyond the floating orb we’ve been talking at since 2011.

The new app will reportedly include conversational history, meaning Siri will finally remember your previous requests within a session. It will also support file and image uploads, letting users share documents and photos directly with the assistant for analysis or context.

There’s also integration with Apple’s Dynamic Island technology, suggesting Siri interactions will be woven more deeply into the iPhone’s interface. A new system-wide “Ask Siri” interface will complement the standalone app, giving users multiple entry points to the assistant across iOS 27 and macOS 27.

Screen awareness is another major addition. The enhanced Siri will understand what’s currently on your display and factor that into its responses.

Multi-app functionality rounds out the feature set. Rather than handling one command in one app at a time, the revamped assistant aims to chain actions across multiple applications.

A history of delays and missed deadlines

Apple first previewed major AI enhancements at WWDC 2024, which included optional ChatGPT integration as part of its broader Apple Intelligence push.

Those features were originally slated for iOS 26. They didn’t make it.

Internal testing challenges forced Apple to push the more ambitious Siri upgrades to the next cycle. The WWDC 2026 reveal represents Apple’s attempt to finally deliver on promises that are now two years old.

The multi-model play

Apple is reportedly exploring a multi-partner approach to AI models. Rather than relying exclusively on its existing OpenAI partnership, Apple may open Siri to models from multiple providers, potentially including Google.

What this means for investors

A more capable Siri strengthens Apple’s ecosystem lock-in. Users who rely on a genuinely intelligent assistant across their iPhone, Mac, iPad, and Apple Watch are less likely to switch platforms. That retention dynamic supports Apple’s services revenue, which has been the company’s growth engine as hardware sales mature.

The multi-model approach also positions Apple as a potential kingmaker in the AI space. Whichever models get selected for Siri integration could see significant usage spikes. For investors tracking AI companies, Apple’s partner choices will be a signal worth monitoring closely.
