The honeymoon phase of affordable AI development tools might be coming to an end. Anthropic, a leading force in the generative AI space, has significantly increased the estimated usage costs for Claude Code, its specialized AI tool for developers.

Without a formal announcement, the company updated its official documentation, revealing price hikes of over 100% for both enterprise and individual users.

The Cost of Innovation: From $6 to $13 and Beyond

The price adjustment was discovered through subtle changes on the Claude Code official website. Previously, the barrier to entry for high-level AI assistance was relatively low, but the new estimates paint a much costlier picture.

According to the updated site, the average daily cost for an enterprise-level developer has jumped from $6 to $13. For power users — those in the top 90th percentile of activity — the estimated daily ceiling has skyrocketed from $12 to $30.

For a full-time developer working 20 days a month, this means an average monthly bill has moved from roughly $120 to $260. For heavy users, that monthly expense could now reach a staggering $600, representing a 150% increase in their operational overhead.

Why the “Quiet” Hike Matters

What has frustrated the developer community isn’t just the price increase itself, but the way it was handled. Anthropic opted for a “silent update” to its website rather than a transparent press release or direct notification.
