Anthropic opens new office in Milan as European expansion hits sixth city in under a year

For a company that only came into existence in 2021, the pace of geographic expansion is striking. Anthropic now operates offices in London, Dublin, Zurich, Paris, Munich, and Milan.
Why Milan, why now
The short answer: follow the money. Anthropic’s run-rate revenue in the EMEA region has increased more than 9x year-over-year.

The 9x revenue growth figure in EMEA is particularly notable because it suggests Anthropic isn’t just opening offices speculatively. Revenue is already there. The offices are catching up to demand rather than trying to create it.

Anthropic’s European push matters beyond the company’s own balance sheet because it reshapes the competitive dynamics of the AI industry globally. OpenAI, Google DeepMind, and Meta AI all have significant European operations, but Anthropic’s pace of expansion, six offices in under a year, suggests the company sees an opportunity to grab market share while the landscape is still forming.
