Dario Amodei sat across from JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon on Bloomberg’s “The Circuit” on May 5 and did something unusual for a tech CEO: he spent most of his airtime talking about how dangerous his own product could become. The Anthropic chief reiterated his estimate that there’s a 25% chance advanced AI leads to catastrophic outcomes, a number he’s been putting on the record for months now.

The growth problem nobody planned for

Amodei revealed during the Bloomberg appearance that Anthropic experienced an 80-fold increase in revenue and usage during the first quarter of 2026. The company had projected a tenfold jump. They missed their own forecast by a factor of eight, in the wrong direction if you’re worried about moving too fast.

Amodei described the growth as “crazy and too hard to handle.” Most CEOs would frame 80x growth as a triumph. Amodei framed it as a logistical nightmare arriving at precisely the wrong moment.

The 20,000-word manifesto

Amodei’s Bloomberg appearance builds on an essay he published in January 2026 titled “The Adolescence of Technology.” At roughly 20,000 words, it lays out categories of AI risk and argues that both corporations and governments need to act preemptively rather than reactively.

The essay covers territory ranging from AI-driven propaganda to the possibility that advanced AI systems could provide strategic advantages to hostile actors. Amodei has been pushing the concept of “red lines,” essentially non-negotiable boundaries that the industry should refuse to cross regardless of competitive pressure or profit motive, particularly around autonomous weapons and mass surveillance.

What this means for tech investors and the AI landscape

For investors watching the AI sector, Amodei’s 80x revenue figure confirms that demand for advanced AI tools is accelerating far beyond what even insiders anticipated. The company had projected only a tenfold increase.

The conversation between Amodei and Dimon focused entirely on AI safety, corporate responsibility, and growth dynamics. No mention of blockchain, crypto, or decentralized technology made it into the discussion.
